10 Steps to Wash Hair Gently

Prep Your Hair

Before getting in the shower, detangle your hair with a wide-tooth comb to remove any knots and prevent breakage during washing.

Warm Up, Not Hot

Avoid scalding hot water, which can strip your hair of natural oils. Opt for lukewarm water to thoroughly wet your hair from roots to ends.

Shampoo Savvy

Apply a dime-sized amount of shampoo to your scalp, not the ends of your hair.

Lather Rinse

Depending on your hair type and product, you might need to lather and rinse once or twice.

Condition

Apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair, avoiding the roots. Conditioner helps detangle, hydrate, and add shine.

Wait and Rinse

Let the conditioner sit on your hair for a minute or two to allow it to work its magic.

Cool it Down

Finish with a quick rinse of cool water to help seal the hair cuticle and add shine.

Gently Squeeze

Avoid rough towel drying. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water with a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt.

Detangle Again

While hair is damp, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle any knots or tangles that may have formed during washing.

Air Dry

Let your hair air dry whenever possible. If using heat styling tools, apply a heat protectant spray beforehand.
